Design Philosophy and Attitude

I understand design as a multifaceted, transdisciplinary and transmaterial field of art, where advanced techniques encounter elemental matter and precision leaves room for surprise, delight and even laughter. To explore the roles and agencies of the wild things and wicked problems within this field, I continually expand my knowledge and skills across a broad range of theories and practices. The complex and intersectional challenges of contemporary life require fluency in not just one, but many techniques and technologies. After studying fashion design, I built and ran my own practice and label for twelve years, while continuously crossing disciplinary boundaries into art, installation and spatial design, with a particular focus on materiality. I see this transdisciplinary approach as essential to situating my work within a feminist and sustainable design practice and a critical design ecosystem that includes more-than-human actors, active materials and the natural world.
